In the lead up to Christmas, the design team from the University of Southampton have been working hard to complete the technical design for the well project. Following our formal design review with Article 25, the team are now finalising the Invitation to Tender to be issued to Cameroonian contractors in the new year ready for construction of the three wells to commence in Spring. The team will then create an Operation & Maintenance guide along with a Monitoring & Evaluation document for each of the wells. Students at the University of Birmingham have been working in three teams to research and develop latrine designs, hand washing and clothes washing facilities. They have been considering the existing facilities within Cameroonian villages and using information about the local geography and culture to produce solutions that are tailored to the needs of each community.
In the new year the universities will be working collaboratively to develop a document outlining this initial research, in particular setting out a proposal for the aims and objectives of the latrine project
The fundraising efforts of both student chapters have been incredible this term. The Southampton team held a very successful 5-a-side football tournament and a Christmas decoration sale in the student union. The Birmingham team also held a sponsored silence event!
Upcoming events include a netball tournament and a Valentine’s Day themed bake sale.
